Uncommonly Good Goods

Having learned the art
of scouting and choosing
treasure
 at my grandmother's knee,

I am always seeking
 those charming and unusual pieces
with which I long to surround
 myself .

I can't help it,
I can't stop,
it's a part of who I am.

Some things call out to me
with their stories

in
their tender voices,

and
I reach out to them,

rescuing them from obscurity
for
yet a little while.

They
 may not be
 important,

but

they have a voice . . .
a
story to share.

They are reclaimed
and repurposed
and allowed to speak

that simple history

to my heart.

Simple Touches

Beautiful days of sunshine and spring weather
have got me all energized!

I have repotted my houseplants,
done some spring cleaning,
packed up a bunch of winter clothes,
(not everything - because no doubt I'll need some still).

I'm completeing my tax preparation
and going to see my accountant  . . .
not fun exactly,
but,
I'm giving myself treats for every couple of hours
I keep at it!
Coffee & a cookie  . . .
some time out for
a segment of a great old movie  . . .

Got up very early
this morning
to
the sweet sound
of birdsong,
and
took my coffee and toast
and a blanket to wrap up in,

out
 to my back porch
to
enjoy the first view of the day!

I'm enjoying a lot of
simple touches
these days
like
freshly baked bread
and
the simple joy of slicing it as needed!

There's something gratifying about using my beautiful old breadboard.

And
 actually
 burning some of those candles
instead of just
 buying and stashing them . . .

I challenge you to appreciate some
simple touches
in
your
life.

Let me know what you're
enjoying
these days!

Easter Day

I am off to church to celebrate our faith's most holy and precious day:
Easter.

Today
 we celebrate
that our Savior, Christ Jesus,
has risen from the death of the body,
to eternal life.

His promise to us
is
that for those who believe,

eternal life with Him
is
assured.

Believe what?

That He
is
 God the Son
and
that He has paid the price for our sin,
that we may be seen
 by God the Father
as
 pure and worthy.

Blessings to all!

Enjoying The Simple Life

I'm up early this morning and posting before I go to work.

Yesterday I spent the day at a local hospital with a sweet friend.
Nice hospital, as hospitals go,
(and I've become something of a connoisseur . . .)

My friend had a fall during the night and cracked her forehead open on some hard surface
necessitating 19 stitches.

She is terribly bruised and sprained and can barely move in her hospital bed.
Jeanette is over 40, (twice), but spry and healthy,
and I long to see her up and about again soon.

She has survived
 two heart attacks,
two knee surgeries
 and numerous other surgeries
that we accumulate in a long active lifespan.
She still gets around admirably with the assistance of a walker,
and does pretty much as she pleases!

She was a violinist extraordinaire
and
an elementary school teacher.

She is beautiful, with a beauty that does not fade.

Jeanette is made of kindness.
That's about the best way I can describe her.

Her sense of humor is amazing
and
her outlook on life is awesome
and
I love her like a grandmother.

We spent the day with nurses and technicians
poking and prodding and sticking and testing and xraying,
and her attitude,
(despite her pain and discomfort),
was
purely sweet.

Watching Jeanette made me think about
the way life is made up
 of simple little things
 we take for granted..

How many ordinary things I can do,
that I never think about.
I can move about without pain,
feed myself,
adjust the lighting, open the window,
go where I wish
sleep in my own comfy bed.

That
these are sweet blessings
that
I take for granted.

Just thinking . . .

Unpacking From The Junk Jaunt

When I returned from my buying trip two weeks ago, I cruised into town in my sleek 17' Uhaul,
(such a delightful vehicle to drive . . . ),
 suffering from
"the flu, or something like it".

With a little help from my friends, I went straight home to bed, and spent several days attempting to regain my strength.
These friends unloaded the truck and stashed a wealth of items in my warehouse.

Architectural fragments
corbels
pillars
wreaths
old peely shutters
gorgeous doors
tinware
cool stuff!

After being away for a week and sleeping through the better part of the following week,
NEEDED
to get myself in gear
and
get some of those awesome
finds
into
the
SHOP!

Yesterday I finally managed to price and inventory some precious items
and
display them
at
PATINA ANTIQUES.

(OK - again with a little help from my friends.)

I just haven't really shaken this lethargy
and
weak, tired, worn out feeling
that followed
"the flu or something like it".
It's wicked!!!

Anyway,
There is a fresh selection of
antique
tick tock clocks
old bottles
ironstone
skeleton keys
a turn of the century, rolling, store display rack,
pairs of gnarly corbels
shelf brackets,
folkart birdhouses,
and a whole lot of sweet finds.

Come peruse
and
enjoy
and tomorrow I'll be bringing in another truckload!

Spring Cleaning

Springtime in the Rockies . . .
80 degrees yesterday, snow tomorrow!

Poor little blossoms aren't sure what to do . . .

I'm spring cleaning at Patina,
evaluating what I want the shop to evolve into
as this year progresses.

Saturday I marked several items to 50% off
and
some customers were
delighted
with the serendiipitous finds!

I'll be doing that all week
in
an effort
to move out some
treasures that have been languishing
and
bring in some of the
fresh finds
from
my
latest
forages!!!!

Come see what's
happening!!!
